He/Him, 23, AlienShard (Awakened 2015)

I go by Ruko or Reiji in otherkin/fictionkin communities, I'm an alienshard & Reiji Sakamaki fictionkin.
I'm infamous for my strong opinions and open honest way of speaking, but I consider myself a teacher and study various fields of psychology.
New to otherkin or fictionkin? I'd be glad to help, send me a message.

Should we use the otherkith word for something else? but similar?

I know otherhearted and otherkith mean literally the same. but what if we try to add a little more to otherkith?

Originally it would be this:

  • Otherhearted|Otherkith: Identifying with something non-human

But with my new term would be like this:

  • Otherkith: Identifying with something non-human and wanting to be something non-human
  • Otherhearted: Identifying with something non-human and having a deep affinity with it as its almost like a part of you

And before you ask, why redefine this? First of all, otherkith isn’t even being used, second sometimes otherhearted people want to be their hearttypes while some just feel a very deep affinity and is feels like they are a part of it, this is for separation, and third, the reason why otherkith is the one being chosed is because is similar to otherkin, or more exactly, kin is similar to kith, Kin meaning family and Kith meaning friends.

Another question I want to anwser: Wouldn’t that be otherlinking?

Uh no? Because otherlink are otherlinkers because they are voluntary identifying as something non-human, not wanting to be it as far as I know.

Quick question before it ends: Isn’t that synpath?

No, because you feel a strong bond with the synpath and not as if their part of you.

What do y’all think?

I fine if y’all decline because it’s just actually a thought that came in my head

Or should it be the otherway around, otherhearted being wanting and otherkith being identifying with something non-human?

Or maybe just otherkith should be wanting to be something non-human

I’m sure this would cause more confusion with the terms in the alterhuman community.

I’m also sure this is unnecesary

EDIT: Fixed some formating

EDIT 2: I’m actually considering the idea of switching them just like I sayed the  otherway around but the Otherhearted term is being more used so I don’t think its a good idea

I actually think this would be practical, though I’m mainly reblogging to see what other people have to say. I know proposing a new word is a lot easier than changing the meaning of a pre-existing word, but in this case it might be possible/worth it. I know that there still are quite a few people who prefer otherkith over otherhearted (especially on forums like Therian-Guide and The Daemon Forum, though also on tumblr), so that’s where the biggest hurdle to this proposition is.

I don’t agree with ‘refining’ the term otherhearted because I think it’s better for it to cover a wide range of experiences. Hell the community is already divided fighting over the terminology it already has, can you really expect people to try and narrow down something as base as relating to something?

We all relate to things, all the time. Otherhearted was only there to create a recognition within the community of the difference between relation and one’s core identity. But the best thing about otherhearted is that it ‘can’ cover a lot of different things.
I personally use it because my hearted type feels like my family. I don’t know if I ‘relate’ to them per say, or have any deep want to be them, they’re just my family while I am not one of them. This powerful and intimate connection I have to my heartedtype is what gives this experience it’s worth to be recognised and have it’s own descriptive word in my life.

But as we know, otherhearted can cover a lot of other things also, but in your new definitions I would be completely excluded.
There is no requirement under otherhearted to feel like you want to be them, or your hearted type is part of you etc.

Otherhearted at the moment is a great word because it can cover so much, and people can understand your connection without needing every single innate detail spelled out in the term it’s self - that’s something you can detail on later should they ask you.
